Sharing of Dreams and Sorrows
After joining the Cochin University in 1982 as a research scholar in the Department of Applied Economics my beloved father expired.Since he had many dreams and aspirations about me it took time to console myself. My research activities continued and towards the middle of 1983 field data collection started and in February 1984 it was completed. After completing the data collection I was in a fix.Although lot of information were collected I did not know how to proceed.Practically I was like a monkey holding full coconut. Incidentally some of my colleagues made adverse comments about my competency in doing research. These adverse comments along with my own inferior feeling haunted me like anything finally made me depressive.
Fortunately in the Department both Head and Guide were very much encouraging.Despite the conducive atmosphere in the Department my own lack of confidence persisted. Luckily that time two of my fellow researchers came forward affectionately to help me.They were C.A.Antony of Economics departments and D Rajeev of Law department.Antony who had been previously serving as lecturer in Bhutan helped me a lot in data analysis.Rajeev sir with his MA Psychology background inspired me tremendously. In the hostel room he used to narrate thought provoking instances and sing a particular Malayalam song " Swapanangalokayum panguvekam Dhuka bharangalum panguvekam"-in substance both dreams and bundle of sorrows can be shared.
After completion of PhD and entering service I made it a point whoever approaches me for research purpose give them all possible help irrespective of the fact whether he or she is my student or not- We have to share our dreams and sorrows.
