Shattered Dreams-2

 After the sad demise of Anu a disheartened Dr.Sundaram decided to return back to India.He managed to get placement in a medical College hospital at Kochi.During his tenure in Baharin he was able to amass enormous wealth and investments include land, buildings, shares,FDs and jewellery.Anju was studying in the 8th standard.Both the parents were taking special care of Anju and Anju had been assuring and reiterating them that she will never do anything foolish like her sister.She was good at her studies and scored very good grades in Science subjects.Accordingly for plus two she took second group. For medical entrance her score was not very high.Without loosing an academic year her father paid capitation fee and secured admission for MBBS in the same Medical College where Dr.Sundaram. was working.She enjoyed her college and studies.Since father had been working there and his own professor was senior most faculty in medical College ,her marvelous behaviour and sweet voice made Anju darling of every one.While dealing with patients she had shown extreme care and empathy and she became very popular among patients.

        Anju had successfully completed the MBBS programme.Even after house surgency she continued practice in the same college.Her father want to send her for post graduate program.She was very particular to secure admission through merit.But that particular year her P G entrance rank was not sufficient to get admission.She told her father that she would undergo intensive coaching in ac acclaimed coaching centre and appear next year.But her father was not prepared to wait. He told that since good marriage proposals were coming earlier the better.He some how managed to get her admitted in a renowned medical College in the neighbouring state by paying rupees 2. crores for General Medicine.Eventhough the prevailing rate was 2.5 crores his professor's recommendation carried weight and reduced to rupees 2crores. Anju though reluctantly to fulfill her father's ambition joined for the MD program in General Medicine.

            Anju dreamt about the expert practitioners in General Medicine and their professional competence.She also recalled her own experience  while she had been practicing in the previous medical College where several times politicians and celebrities like Mohanlal came as patients Dreaming to become a good physician Anju started to attend both theory and practical classes.The Department Head professor Lakshmana who was a short tempered person was not at all happy over foregoing rupees 50 lakhs in the case of Anju's admission where only very limited seats were available.One day Dr Lakshmana was handling Anatomy class for them wherein he raised a question about spinal cord to Anju . Eventhough she answered the question he was not happy and observed that she was "incompetent". Since Anju was very much mingling type next day when she was chatting with her colleagues Dr Lakshmana came that way and commented "this is a place to study human lives, not to gossip and display your affluence". Anju was very much disturbed and negative thoughts came haunting her mind.She thought had her own plan of undergoing rigorous coaching and appearing next time was allowed this situation might not have arisen.Mean time her mother called from the house and enquired about her studies.Anju felt like weeping.Her father also spoke and reassured her that if required they were ready to take an appartment near her college and shift there,so that she can feel more comfortable

   Days passed negative comments continue to pour in.She felt very much distressed and sleepless.A vicious cycle was operating in her mind-her inability to show courage and confidence, parents aspirations about her MD program, negative factors in the college.All these factors gradually slipped her to real depression.She lost interest and pleasure in most activities.Frequently she was seen crying.But it is unfortunate that being a medical College nobody took interest to diagnose her ailment and cure it.Her father through phone advised her to take ante depressants which she declined.

On that fateful Friday Anju was attending the Anatomy class of professor Lakshmana.As usual he discussed the topic and put questions to her.This time she was not in a mood to answer.Her indifferent behaviour prompted him to shout further adversely.Anju abruptly got up ran towards the corridor opened the door and jumped out from the 4th floor, while attenders were pleading -"madam, madam please don't go there."

           After the untimely departure of their pretty young daughter Sundaram and Deepika felt much vaccum in their life.When Sundaram visited Anju's college to bring back her belongings to his surprise he saw  a grief stricken Professor Lakshmana who was seen weeping. But what use now? Her class mates were recalling that eventhough they saw her weeping at times,otherwise her behaviour was generally very nice.Who is to be blamed? Both parents were thinking about so many ifs and buts.Whether there were mistakes in the upbringing of their two children.?Any way they consoled themselves in involvement of charitable activities.
