JOHNSON'S RULE

 Johnson was the youngest son of the planter couple Chackochan and Mariamma.  Along with Johnson, eldest son Wilson elder son Jobson and only daughter Alphonsa comprised of their family.  After a nursing course from  Mangalore Alphonsa emigrated to Germany. Wilson has been doing spices trade while Jobson was selected as a clerk in the revenue department of Kerala government. Eventhough Johnson aspired to  study Law  his passion for agriculture and commitment to assist his father made him a laborious farmer.  Johnson has been very affectionate towards workers and trying to help them in times of distress especially during slack and rainy season. As flourishing planters both Chackochan and Johnson have been very popular in the area and surrounding places. Meantime an affair developed between Johnson and a Hindu  girl Geeta ,daughter of an autorickshawala.Initially there was much opposition from Mariamma but  Chackochan stood firmly behind Johnson and marriage was solemnised in the church premises However Geeta was given full freedom to visit temple and practice her religious faith. 

   Johnson had followed certain rules and regulations. For instance once he had arranged a mason to repair his  motor shed for  Friday but he did not turn up.On Saturday when mason arrived to his astonishment he found that not only half of the work was completed by Johnson but also he was still working on it. Similarly when his own  three and half years old son used to regularly peep nearby pond despite several warnings, he was given a bitter treatment from Johnson. When he saw son still peeping to the pond he simply went there pushed him to the pond, cut trunk of a plantain and threw it to the water. Son grabbed the plantain trunk and drank some water before Johnson rescued him.In any case son never looked to the pond side after wards .

  Years passed.In January 29, 2012 early morning 5 o clock Chackochan as usual was walking through the estate when he found a wild boar destroying plantains and tapioca.Chackochan threw stones and chased the animal and while running unfortunately he came across a big tusker in front of him which in turn started chasing him.He tried his level best to run and escape but because of the slippery ground he fell down and elephant mercilessly crushed him to death.

 Chackochan was very farsighted man.He had already divided the land into 5 shares.3 acres of land each for all the 4 children and 5 acres jointly for Chackochan and Mariamma.Since Johnson was fully engaged in agricultural activities and staying with parents he was additionally given the traditional house (tharavadu) and adjoining 40 cents of land.Mother Mariamma has been suffering from both hyper blood pressure and diabetes after some time her kidney also failed. Johnson and Geeta were very particular to take care of her by regular consultation of nephrologist and diabetologist in the far away medical college hospital.  But after Chackochan death her general health condition further deteriorated and she was advised to undergo dialysis every week. After nearly a year the frequency of dialysis was increased to  twice in a week. 

 Seeing the earnestness shown to treatment of mother by both Johnson and Geeta mean time a rumour  spread across the village and church that Mariamma herself plans to give her property to Johnson alone. This news made Wilson and Jobson  very much disturbed spending sleepless nights . Finally they joined together and decided to take care of mother in their respective houses. Mariamma was unwilling to go to their houses. When they insisted further Johnson intervened and told them that we can take mother for 3 months on rotation to our respective houses. Very reluctantly she agreed and first she was taken to Wilson's house.Things were not as expected. For nearly one month Wilson's wife Leelama was very caring later she started to treat  her as a burden -cross. Later she was not at all interested in taking care of the mother in law instead she was preoccupied with marriage proposals for her daughter. One day Johnson came to meet his mother and he was terrified to find the deplorable condition of untidy clothes bed sheets and poor sanitation conditions.After seeing him she started whimpering and practically begging him to take some how her back to his house. Johnson called both his brothers and irrevocably told them that he is  taking back mother to his own house. Johnson  declared that even if mother  is offering her property he would not accept it.we will divide the property equally only after her departure. 

 As usual for Christmas celebrations of 2017 Johnson invited both his brother's and family for lunch.The celebrations became very special because Alphonsa from Germany had already arrived.Merry Christmas was celebrated with sumptuous meal with 4 kinds of meat, fish,3 varieties of wine and different types of cake.Mariamma was unusually thrilled to mingle with her children and grandchildren and spend more time with them.By 8.30 pm she went to bed exhausted and slept soundly.Unfortunately she did not wake up next day and left to heaven.After few days Johnson with the assistance of Jobson managed to get registered the parents property into four equal divisions.
