YOUNG SPOUSE
Venkatesh was born as the third and youngest child of Murugan-Rajathi couple in Mannadipet village of Puducherry.Family's main source of livelihood was agriculture and dairying .Unlike the other two children eldest daughter Andal and elder son Rajan venkatesh was not handsome and also dark complexioned. But right from the beginning he was very studious in his studies. Seeing his enthusiasm teachers in general appreciated and encouraged him. When he graduated with a first class from the Government College Puducherry he could get admission for post graduate course in the Central University. His household conditions were such that he was badly in need of a job to support family, accordingly he started appearing for competitive examinations. Finally when he was about to appear for fourth semester examination appointment letter came from the Puducherry Government appointing him to the post of Upper Division Clerk. He readily accepted it without waiting for the semester examination to be completed. He was posted in Government Secretariat Department of Education.
Three years had passed. Parents were seriously thinking of getting him married. Since it was customary in his community the practice of "Thai Maman Kalyanam"or uncle marrying niece Andal was very particular to conduct the marriage of her elder daughter Bhuvanewari with her brother and Government employee Venkatesh. Bhuvaneswari was 18 years old and venkatesh completed 25 years of age. Initially Venkatesh was not at all willing to follow the unscientific tradition. But when the big trio - sister, father and mother insisted reluctantly he agreed to marry Bhuvaneswari. However his brother in law Saravanan was ideally against the marriage between blood relations.
The marriage was fixed on 15th of September.Bhuvaneswari's passion were movies and music and her favorite hero was Kamal Hassan and she was dreaming about a bridegroom like Kamal. She did not like marriage with Venkatesh. Already she was infatuated with a neighbour who was relatively fair and having some resemblance with Kamal whom she believed to be her hero Kamal .He was also very much attracted towards her.He was Rajasekharan a taxi operator. On September 12th she eloped with him and got their marriage registered with the help of her father's cousin. All became very unhappy in Venkatesh family and even his sister suggested to offer just 16 year old younger daughter in marriage in the same muhurtham. Venkatesh not only out right rejected it but also decided to remain unmarried.
As years passed he continued his daily routine of spending evenings on the beach after office hours. One day accidentally he met his Professor Dr.Santhanam on the beach who had just returned from abroad in connection with his fullbright fellowship. He very well remembered the studiousness of his own student Venkatesh. After enquiring about his present job he advised his student first to complete the fourth semester examination and then appear for NET/UGC examination and do research. Santhanam promised to give all possible help and cautioned against wasting life in between files. Already he was aware from the Department about the advantages enjoyed by faculty members hence without second thought he decided to take leave and pursue his studies. Fortunately after 6 months he got project associate's work and subsequently after three and half years he became a faculty member in his own Department and later he was awarded PhD as well.
Venkatesh has been a very committed teacher and researcher.Students got much inspired by his analytical ability and presentation. Meantime many marriage proposals came which he refused complaining that he is neither Kamal Hassan nor even Vadivelu. However in the fifth year of his teaching career a pretty young girl Jisha ,daughter of a bakery merchant from Mahe joined for PG course in his Department and incidentally he was assigned as her faculty advisor. She was a very bright and beautiful student and carried his instructions A to Z sincerely. With his guidance she was able to present many papers in national and international seminars and conferences. In one such conference when she was not able to fully defend her paper Venkatesh came to her defence and rescued. After that incident she became an ardent admirer and true follower of him. She dreamt of a married life with him. Somehow through wellwishers consisting of other faculty members and friends she succeeded in conveying the matter to Venkatesh. Considering his past bitter experience, her young age and beauty he rejected the request. However after much persuasion from his colleagues and family and the fact that proposal came from the girl herself he finally agreed to meet her parents. After family discussions the marriage was solemnised in Sreekrishna temple Mahe.
After the marriage Venkatesh and Jisha shifted to University Quarter's.Everything was fine except occasional comments from some individuals about their differences in beauty and physical appearance. Jisha never bothered about such comments but Venkatesh was feeling some sort of insecurity and inferiority complex. Consequently he reduced their frequent visit to beach, park, temples and shops and also restricted the visit of students to his quarter. In the mean time they were blessed with a son.Despite the nursery school was very near Venkatesh was very particular to take himself the baby to the nursery and back.Shyam one of his research scholars had to submit his PhD thesis before February 28th and on February 27th only he could get the copies of the thesis bounded. So on 28th morning 8.30 he came with 5 copies of thesis to Venkatesh's quarter for Guide's signature. At that time Venkatesh was taking bath and Jisha asked him to sit. As customary she prepared him tea. When Venkatesh finished his bath he saw Jisha talking and serving tea to Shyam.Unfortunately this had upset him and he shouted at both of them and for the first time Jisha was stunned to see a different face of her own learned professor.Instantaneously she uttered"Krishna Guruvayoorappa".
That day when Venkatesh reached the Department he found that students were not as cordial as before and they were murmuring something. He also felt very bad about himself. He should have controlled himself, actually nothing wrong has happened, and it was his own fault. But his complex got an upper hand over rational thinking. This resulted in sleepless nights and unnecessary thoughts haunted him.On March 26th night around 8.30 he felt severe chest pain. Being weekend nobody in neighbouring quarters were present. When Jisha came out crying for help students including Shyam came forward and assisted to take professor to JIPMER hospital. Doctors diagnosed block in the heart and performed angioplasty. After angioplasty he returned to normal life transformed as a new person realising his mistakes and shedding his complexes .He became very broad minded and full freedom was given to his young wife in all family matters and students were allowed to visit his quarter.
